Stress is a state of emotional tension.
Emotional stress. Nowadays, it is acceptable to use the term “stress” instead of the term “emotional stress”. Cycling or exercising in the gym, passing the exam, participating in a competition is considered a stress. As a result, the term gradually loses its original meaning assigned by Hans Selye in his works. According to Yu. Chirkov (1988), the term stress is contradictory and misleading because it does not fit within the narrow definition. The term is uncertain and vague therefore it fails to catch the essence of the phenomenon and causes terminological confusion. Unfortunately, as you will see later, Hans Selye did not provide a great definition.
