Hot temper (emotional irritability) is proneness of a personality to irritability and anger. When we study the concept of hot temper, we need to introduce the concept of «emotional threshold.»  A person with a lower anger threshold is more quick-tempered.

Irritability in schoolchildren is more pronounced at the age of 13. Schoolgirls are more irritable then boys.

There is a significant correlations between short temper and a tendency to aggressive behavior in children between 11-13 years.

Researchers found that college students develop better self-control and anger management.

Strictly speaking, one can speak of significant emotional irritability when a wide range of strong emotions is easily provoked. However, there are cases of proneness for a single emotion, especially in pathological cases. Such cases, according to Lazursky, only partially fall into the category of emotional excitability.

It is obvious that emotional irritability reflects the general excitability of the nervous system and depends on the level of reaction.
