Psychology of Needs
Psychology of Needs deals with the study of human needs, from basic to spiritual ones.
Needs are the foundations of the motives, desires, and wishes. Needs encourage people to develop and reach their goals.
Psychologists distinguish the stage of the development of every need:
The first stage is before encountering the subject or object that satisfies the need. At this stage, a person experiences some tension or dissatisfaction without knowing the cause.
The second stage is after encountering the subject or object that satisfies the need. During the encounter with an object a person feels deep satisfaction and in future a person starts searching for such objects and subjects. In other words, the need becomes objectified and recognized in a specific subject.
There are many different classifications of human needs. One of the most popular classification is Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, represented as a pyramid with the more basic needs at the bottom. No wonder that A. Maslow is considered as one of the founders of psychology.
If we look at Maslow’s Piramid we will see that:
1. Needs are divided into primary and secondary arranged as priorities in the form of a piramid.
2. Human behavior is determined by the physilogical needs.
3. When the need is satisfied, its motivating effect stops.
It is one of the most well-known theories that classifies human needs into primary needs, for example, the need for food, the need for safety and secondary needs, for example: the need for self-expression.
